It was an early morning marked by heavy rain, but as the skies cleared, the SiGMA Europe C-Level Golf Tournament kicked off under bright Maltese sunshine. With sunshine breaking through and enthusiasm running high, the tournament proved to be a ‘tee-rific start’ to SiGMA’s week of events. The event, held at the Royal Malta Golf Club, combined competition and camaraderie, creating a memorable day for everyone.
After a hearty breakfast, club captain Stewart Davies welcomed participants with a motivational speech, sharing the unique heritage of the Royal Malta Golf Club. Founded in 1888, the Royal Malta Golf Club holds the unique distinction of being one of the oldest golf clubs outside the British Isles. He reiterated that while the club cherishes its proud heritage; they have committed themselves to forward thinking and ensuring that the Royal Malta Golf Club remains a benchmark for excellence, innovation, and community spirit within the golfing world. This tournament had the added honour of being the first event held on the club’s newly refurbished course, a testament to its ongoing commitment to quality.
Organised by Tero Vienonen, Head of Commercial at Logifuture, the tournament got underway with players embracing the opportunity to mix business with leisure. Christoffer Fröberg, a seasoned attendee at SiGMA events, shared his enthusiasm: “The golf course is a great place to do business and to make meaningful connections.” Another eager participant, Mika Kujapelto, Managing Director & Co-founder at Cashcow, echoed this sentiment, noting, “I look to make new connections and put faces to the people behind their social media profiles. I’d hope to do well, but I’m happy to be here, be part of it, and wish to enjoy a good day.”
Recognition for excellence
The day saw an impressive display of skill across the course, with special recognition awarded for standout performances. Mika Kujapelto claimed the “Closest to the Pin” award on hole 7, while Ben Cove, Chief Marketing Officer at Logifuture won this honour on hole 17. Kujapelto also took home the “Longest Drive” on hole 8, demonstrating his accuracy and power on the green. The tournament’s individual winner was Renaud Thys, CEO of Technospin, who delivered a remarkable performance, setting the standard for future competitions.
In the team category, the winning foursome—Davide Marchisio, Klas Winberg, Renaud Thys, and Yevhen Krazhan exemplified strategic play and teamwork, securing their place in SiGMA’s event history.
More than just golf
This tournament wasn’t just about swinging clubs and sinking putts. The fluctuating weather didn’t dampen spirits. Other events today included the SiGMA Cup by All-in Global, held at Luxol Football Club, where participants swapped golf clubs for football boots in another spirited competition. Additionally, the SiGMA Foundation Fun Run, powered by Yo Health, offered a lively way for attendees to get active and give back, highlighting SiGMA’s commitment to community engagement and wellness.
