Philippines’ DigiPlus dispels CasinoPlus acquisition speculation

DigiPlus Interactive Corp. has clarified that it has “no definitive plans at this time” to acquire CasinoPlus, refuting recent media speculation. The company addressed the rumors in a statement to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, countering a report by Bilyonaryo.com that claimed DigiPlus was in advanced talks to purchase the online gaming operator. According to the report, the acquisition could potentially elevate the combined monthly revenue of both companies to PHP10 billion (€161.7 million).

CasinoPlus, regulated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), operates the Hotel Stotsenberg and Casino in Clark, currently undergoing renovations. PAGCOR’s revised guidelines allow licensed land-based casinos and integrated resorts to offer online gambling, exclusively for registered Philippine players, with games linked to physical gaming machines or tables. This hybrid model differentiates these platforms from server-based virtual gaming operations. DigiPlus’ statement aims to quell speculation, emphasising its focus on internal growth and current operations.

DigiPlus’ transformational growth and strategy

Formerly known as Leisure & Resorts World Corp., DigiPlus has undergone a strategic overhaul, cementing its reputation as a key player in the gaming and leisure sector. Since its rebranding, the company has shifted focus to digital entertainment, including platforms such as BingoPlus and ArenaPlus. DigiPlus also exited its controversial casino resort proposal in Boracay in late 2023, further emphasizing its pivot to innovative, technology-driven ventures.

The company’s financial performance reflects its success, with a net income surge of 314 percent year-on-year to PHP8.75 billion (€141.4 million) in the first nine months of 2024. Revenues grew by 223 percent to PHP51.56 billion (€833 million), while EBITDA rose by 271 percent to PHP9.34 billion (€151 million). The launch of flagship products such as Pinoy Drop Ball and Super Ace Jackpot has been pivotal. Pinoy Drop Ball revives Filipino carnival traditions in a live-streamed, mobile-friendly format, while Super Ace Jackpot redefines slot gaming with massive prizes reaching up to PHP200 million (€3.2 million). These games have resonated strongly with Filipino players, contributing to increased engagement and revenue.

Focusing on mission to innovate

As the majority owner of First Cagayan Leisure and Resort Corp., a licensing authority under the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA), DigiPlus continues to expand its influence. While industry speculation about a potential collaboration with CasinoPlus persists, DigiPlus remains focused on its mission of delivering innovative and culturally resonant gaming experiences, signalling that any future moves will align with its strategic growth plan.
