MGA seeks industry input on changes to player protection policies

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has launched a consultation with its licensees over planned changes to responsible gaming rules to improve player protection.

The MGA is proposing amendments to the Player Protection Directive designed to strengthen the player protection framework. The regulator it’s in the process of conducting detailed research and garnering expert experience to serve as the basis for its guidelines. 

“As a first step, the amendments being proposed that are subject to the ongoing closed consultation delve into, inter alia, the licensees’ obligations regarding their responsible gaming policies and procedures and the introduction of five (5) markers of harm that must be considered by licensees when determining effective measures and processes to detect and address problem gambling,” the MGA said in a statement.

Provisions relating to real-money reinforcement and staff training have also been included in the proposed amendments.

The MGA consultation period was launched on Sept. 30th and will run through to Oct. 14th.
