Online sports betting businesses to resume operations in Singapore

Allowing wagering to resume its online operations will help to stem the growth of illegal gambling

Singapore’s Multi-Ministry Taskforce announced that the country will be moving to Phase 2 of the plan to relax the Covid-19 restrictions, allowing sports betting businesses to resume operations.

Singapore Pools have resumed online sports betting on 15 June, while online horse wagering for overseas races will resume on 17 June. Wagers can be made through website, mobile apps or phone betting.

However, all Singapore Pools outlets, branches, authorised retailers, livewire venues and off-course betting centres will remain closed, as well as lottery draws 4D, Toto and Singapore Sweep, until further notice.

Singapore Pools resumed online sports betting yesterday, while online horse wagering for overseas races will resume on 17 June.

Singapore Pools outlets have been closed since 7 April while livewire venues and off-course betting centres for live sports betting and horse racing have been closed since 26 March.

It also advises customers to hold onto their tickets for the postponed draws for upcoming draws since prize payment remains suspended until further notice.

By 18 June, retail businesses as well as food establishments will be allowed to operate with strict social distancing measures and groups still cannot exceed five people.

However, events venue for conferences, exhibitions, concerts and trade fairs as well as entertainment venues like bars, cinemas and theatres are still not allowed to operate.

As the government decided to progressively re-open the country for international travel, travelers will continue to be tested for Covid-19 before the end of the 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN) imposed by the country since March.

Meanwhile, on its company website, Marina Bay Sands states that they are working closely with the authorities for the re-opening schedule in line with the country’s gradual resumption of business activities. Resorts World Sentosa’s website also states that guest offerings will remain suspended and that they are working with the authorities for reopening plans of the facility.

The integrated resorts had suspended operations since the first week of April as Singapore intensifies its efforts against the spread of Covid-19 virus.
