UK: Gross Gaming Revenue of £1.46 billion, up 12% in Q1

Today, the Great Britain Gambling Commission published on the gambling industry. This new set of numbers comes from licensed betting operators in Great Britain. It covers online and in-person gambling.

The new data allows us to compare trends during Q1 of the financial year 2024 to 2025 with Q1 of 2023 to 2024.

An overall growth

In the first quarter (April to June), the Gross Gaming Revenue was £1.46 billion (€1.73 billion), which is 12 percent higher compared to the same quarter last year.
The total number of bets and spins increased by 11 percent year-on-year, reaching a new high of 24.5 billion.
The average monthly active accounts in this period also grew by 9 percent.

Real event betting: €740 million

Real event betting earned £625 million (€740 million), a 16 percent increase from the previous year. Despite a 7 percent decrease in the number of bets placed, there was an 11 percent rise in average monthly active accounts.
The UEFA Euro 2024 and similar major sports events played a significant role in this growth.

Slot machine: peak levels

Slot machine gambling saw a 10 percent increase in revenue, totalling £642 million (€761 million) year-on-year.
The number of spins increased by 12 percent to 22.4 billion, and the average monthly active accounts rose by 11 percent to 4.4 million per month.
These figures represent peak levels for revenue, spins, and active accounts in the slot machine category.

Online slot session duration

The number of online slot sessions lasting over an hour rose by 8 percent compared to last year, totalling 9.6 million sessions. The average session duration remained steady at 17 minutes.
However, sessions lasting longer than an hour remain rare and accounted only for about 6 percent of all sessions, the lowest percentage recorded.

In-person betting decreasing

Revenue from betting in physical locations (LBOs) decreased by 1 percent to £582 million (€690 million) in Q1 2024 compared to the same period last year. The total number of bets and spins also decreased by 1 percent, amounting to 3.2 billion.
